Nurlan* from Central Asia testifies to God’s power to redeem brokenness. He spent his childhood in poverty with his grandmother, having been left parentless after his mother passed away. Growing up, he fell into crime, addiction and drugs, and the downward spiral only worsened. Searching for escape, he fled his hometown. “I hoped to start a new life,” he says. Nevertheless, he couldn’t leave his old ways behind.
But God was pursuing him, too.
In 2023, Nurlan reconnected with old neighbours who, with the support of Open Doors partners, gave him Biblical material and an audio receiver. “As I read the literature, I felt I had discovered the true faith,” he explains. “I began studying the Bible earnestly.”
Bit by bit, Nurlan was transformed by the words of the Bible. “The more I learned about Jesus, the more I longed for him to be my closest friend. Looking back, I see a dramatic change,” he says joyfully.
